News & Updates

Calliope Award
Hey guys!

So, I've got a lot of things I'm trying to get done for the blog. It may be a few more days until I can get back into it, so I thought I'd post up a short update with whats been happen'n 'round the studio.

Item #1: Calliope Award!
I can't tell you how excited I was to find out that Cassino was awarded a Calliope Award at Origins 2012 (link here...). Its sort of the gaming industry standard of an Oscar. So I feel that I need to say a little acceptance speech:

Our book
Thanks to everyone for your kind support. We at Battlefront do strive for innovation and I think Cassino does that, thanks to the hard work of the entire team. Specifically, I'd like to recognize a few people who worked hard on that project to make it what it is. First, Sean Goodison's hard work on the graphic design of the book. He's not only a talented designer, but also did all of the great illustrations in the Infantry Aces section. Speaking of Infantry Aces, I need to give a big shout out to my brother Andrew who helped me pioneer the Aces system before I even made the move to NZ. Ken Camel for putting life into the Italian campaign for Flames Of War. Finally, I need to say thank you to the entire Battlefront studio who rallied around a challenging project and knocked it out of the park. You guys are the greatest team I've had the privilege to work with! Of course nothing would be possible without the support from the overseas Battlefront offices, the dedicated players, and friendly retailers out there. So many thanks goes to you guys! Right, back to work!

Date night with my Caroline!
Item #2: Flight of the Concords
Went to a Flight of the Concords concert a few weekends ago. I'm still on a buzz from that show, which was possibly the best I have ever been to! Anyway, wanted to quickly comment on that and insist you make the effort if they are in your region. I swear on a stack of Bibles that you will not be disappointed!

Haven't heard of Flight of the Concords? Educate yourself below:

From Chaos exits some Order.
Item #3: Painting
As you can see in the photo of my work space, I've got a bad case of painter's ADD. I've got some Dystopian Wars on the go, my Sudan Defense Force trucks have come back out of the box, Norman spearmen and crossbowmen are primed and ready for some paint'n, and that photo doesn't show just to the left where 2/3 of my LWGT army (maybe) is being painted, my US Parachute Rifle Company (Market Garden). I've gotta get some focus soon, but for now I revel in the chaos!

Item #4: Sealion Battlereport & Story Conclusion
Patrick and I played the final installment in the raiding story we've been building for WWPD's Sealion '44 campaign. The event is about to wrap up, so my top priority really needs to be to finish the battlereport and story before the campaign concludes! Lemme tell ya, though. It was a freaking epic game. You know those sorts of games where things happen that will stay with you for the rest of your life? Yeah, that sort of shit happened in this game. Epic.

Patrick executes a tricky maneuver

So, I'll get back to work on those things. Thanks for reading!

  3. Nice result, personally cassino is a fave of mine (i can't get a decent list outha HH), we had a crack with an Infantry aces escalation league (we're currently doing tanks, although i preffered infantry) just gotta get my LRDG finished for raiding aces, back to cassino, what FJ player doesn't want a 2+ morale check, cos i can sure roll 2's ask anybody at my local about my not so fearless FJ's :)
"Flight of the Concords" aren't my bag, if you like them give BBC 6 music a go, try lauren lavernes podcast, if you can put up with her waffle, she plays tunes up your alley, if you're up for the crack, try a Radcliffe & Marconie podcast, more indy than steve lamacq (he plays more punk). Enjoy.
